... Information on the Lima Classic 2008
The Lima Classic is a "Scramble Tournament," which means that each player in the foursome hits his or her ball from the tee.  The players then choose the best shot of the four, and each player hits his or her next shot from this spot.  This continues until the team finishes the hole.  There is only one score per hole for each team.
On top of a lot of fun and competitive team golf, the Lima Classic also has a number of individual contests:

  *
Closest to the pin - Played on a specific par 3 on the course.  The golfer whose 1st shot is closest to the pin wins this contest. Of course, the true winners are the teams who convert with a birdie!

  *
Longest putt made - A contest for the rest of us.  Played on a specific hole on the course.  The golfer who sinks the longest putt wins.

  *
Longest drive (fairway) - A staple in most tournaments.  The only stipulation is that the drive must be in the fairway.

  *
Longest drive (playable) - A variation.  We are again looking for the longest drive on the hole, but the ball can be off the fairway.  As long as the team uses the shot it is eligible. Yes, even if it's 300 yards in the woods.  Time to punch!

  *
Steady Stan - Named in honor of Stan Traynor and his trusty 1-iron (apparently Stan was the only person who could hit the 1-iron - other than God).  Each team keeps track of every golfer's tee shots.  The golfer with the most fairways "hit" wins a tasty prize.

  *
Hole in One - Just what it says.  Sink a hole in one on a pre-determined hole and win a new set of golf clubs!
Other festivities:

  >  Prizes for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and last place teams.  The winners get to kiss the Sirois Cup and drink beer out of their new crystal beer steins!
  >  Raffle for all players, with prizes like golf shirts, balls, gift certificates, clubs, golf bags, coolers, and much more!
  >  Lima Classic "after party" which runs into the late hours of the night!  We have two or three grills running, plenty of non-grilled foods and desserts, multple kegs of beer, wine, soda, and- of course - your sparkling host Steve Lima.
  >  All this and more - plus, a portion of your entry fee is donated to the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp located in Ashford, CT.
